What is Trap Shooting
How is Trap Shooting Played?
Trap shooting is nearly like playing a game of golf, only with the use of a shotgun. Instead of having to hit a ball with the use of the club, you must shoot a flying clay target with a shotgun. It is a sport wherein the entire family gets the opportunity to shoot certain targets together and participate and join in certain tournaments in order to compete against themselves and each other. Simply put, trap shooting basically entails having to shoot at certain clay pigeons or targets that are flung into the air from a trap.
American Trap Categories
American trap is further divided down into three main categories: doubles, singles and handicap. The targets are thrown into the air by a certain machine that is located at ground level and is further covered with a “trap house.” For singles and doubles, there are five “stations,” each station is 16 yards behind the trap house. In a singles match, each and every competitor fires at around five targets when situated from each and every station.
The trap machine oscillates coming from the left side to the right side within a thirty-five degree arc. Moreover, the competitor does not actually know where that angled target will be emerging from. In doubles, the machine does not oscillate, but throws two targets at the same time. Each competitor has to shoot at ten of the thrown targets from each particular station. In all of the American trap events, each of the shooters is only allowed to take one shot for each target.
Trap Shooting as a Money Game
Hitting all those clay targets is not as easy as you think, and this is what makes trap shooting such fun, yet challenging at the same time. Many club members just shoot for the fun of it, for the absolute satisfaction of being able to see those small clay targets explode. But, trap shooting has always been a money game in many of the competition shoots. There are many fine shooters who take these events very seriously. One can compete for money or just the prizes or both.
No matter what age, male or female, one will find trap shooting to be a wonderful sport, something extraordinary, that one has never experienced before. Even if one is not exactly a huge fan of various sports, one will still end up enjoying trap shooting. Unlike other sports such as bowling, basketball, tennis, and especially golf, there are no physical limits or requirements that are necessary for having to run, twist, bend, lift, jump and simply get all breathless.
