Tips To Win the Olympic Trap

If you plan on competing for an Olympic trap shooting contest, then you need to come fully prepared. This sport is already challenging in itself and once you add in the pressure of competition, things can become a bit tougher than usual. Lots of practice is really important for success in Olympic trap shooting and below are some considerations to enhance your chances of winning.

Check Your Equipment First

Before you start to compete, make sure that you have thoroughly checked and validated your equipment, such as the gun and stock measurements. Make sure to look into the following:

*appropriate gun fit
*trigger pull resistance
*proper use of cartridges
*eye dominance issues
*choke measurements
*general conditioning of the gun, etc.

A good coach is useful in preparing for an Olympic trap shooting contest since they can point out possible problem areas. In this sport, even the slightest factor could impact your overall performance in a major way.

Assume the Proper Stance

Your body stance is one of the most important considerations to make if you want to win an Olympic trap. The best stance for Olympic trap shooting should provide you with a 45-degree lateral movement on either side of the body. Place your gun at the base of the yellow trench marker along with the front bead. Then, focus your eyes on the look point while also keeping your general vision open. Universal vision basically refers to the surrounding area covering your target.

Check the cheek pressure of the comb on your gun before calling for the target. This will enable you to keep your head on stock in any case you need a second barrel when you make that shot.

Angle Your Shots Well

When you shout Pull, the target is released and sent hurling into the air. While you remain focused on the target, universal vision shows you the target trajectory so that your eyes are fixed on the moving target. Once you have trained your eyes to focus on the target, it will naturally follow the target in a quick motion. This technique requires lots of practice and confidence in your ability to make that shot.

Additional Considerations to Make

You need to understand that the techniques suggested above works only for a specific condition. Since you will be competing in varying shooting grounds, you need to adjust your strategy accordingly. Hence, take some notes during your training on the shooting grounds before you start competing so you know what you are up against. Then, practice on the techniques you have devised for increased accuracy.
