Vintage and Longboards

Surfing could never be possible without surfboards. The equipment is considered the very essence of the activity. That is because without it, surfing could not be possibly conducted. Through the years, different kinds, designs, and sizes of surfboards have been made and sold commercially to the public. It is logical that the ancient and initial surfboards made and used by ancient Polynesians who started surfing as an activity were very different from the many types and designs of surfboards that people could see and use today. If any of such boards still exists, it could be considered as vintage surfboards.

Finding old surfboards and possible accessories could help in the preservation of the long and interesting history of surfing. Needless to say, there are now many individuals and organizations that are interested and dedicated in the preservation of numerous surfing artifacts. Many surfing enthusiasts find it worthwhile and important to be able to help keep the records and history of the equipment kept and rolling. Vintage surfboards are now considered as priceless possessions. They are treated like antiques, which are valued more as they age. All around the world, there are vintage surfboard collectors that could be found.

Surfing as a form of sports is of course very unique because it involves different lifestyles. In some cases, the activity is even considered as having a spiritual nature. This makes it more interesting to find and collect vintage surfboards. There are just too many information that old boards could render and convey. If the boards available in commercial sports equipment stores today have their own stories to tell, you bet, vintage surfboards have thousands each. Surfers are not the only enthusiasts that are usually captivated and awed by vintage surfboards. Even ordinary people and researchers find their genuine interest in the items.

Vintage surfboards

Thus, vintage surfboard collectors could be considered as crucial players in the appropriate preservation of the interesting history of surfing. Some call them as care takers of rare, old vintage boards. Others simply look up to them for having that passion. Some could not help but wonder how wealthy such collectors could be as collecting vintage surfboards surely could be a very expensive and luxurious hobby. Still, many are convincing more people to join the fun and the interest in finding and collecting vintage surfboards, anywhere they could be in the world. You would truly be surprised how many people are involved in such collections.

Surfboard collectors and enthusiasts would always be considered as crucial to the preservation of surfing history. Major surfing history preservation groups and organizations would always consider vintage boards as valuable items that they should possess. In fact, such groups are openly saying their intention to bid for and buy such vintage items, no matter how costly they could be. Of course, the older the vintage surfboard is, the bigger is the tag valuation that it could take. Thus, many collectors collect the items in the aim of generating more money in the future.

Usefulness of longboards

Just like vintage surfboards, longboards are also collected these days. Unlike vintage boards, longboards are collected to be used, though some enthusiasts collect them for the sake of collection. Longboards are surfboards that measure about 8.5 feet in length. They would float in water when used by practically anyone. The boards are also not very easy to maneuver but they surely could provide better and easier paddling and even wave-catching.

Main usage of longboards is when waves go up to about waist high. They could make paddling effortless with buoyancy. Longboards facilitate stable platform for facilitating easy movements. Surfers in all levels could enjoy riding longboards. Once a surfer who is a beginner learns paddling through whitewater, the longboard could be a great tool for learning. Modern longboards are refined and are lighter, easily maneuverable. Usually, tail shapes in such boards are either rounded-pin or square-shaped.

Longboards may not be as expensive and as sought-after as vintage surfboards but they surely are as important, though in a different level. Longboards are meant to be actually used, whereas vintage boards are meant just to be collected for the sake of possibly preserving the history of surfing. Longboards could be easily found and purchased at sports equipment centers, whereas vintage surfboards are obviously rare and expensive.
