Choosing the Right Surfboard: Tips That Will Help You Get the Perfect Surfboard
Whether you are a beginner surfer or an advanced one, you basically need to know how to choose the right kind of surfboard for you. You have to remember that different boards can affect the way you ride the wave. By understanding how each kind of surfboards work, you will be able to choose the perfect surfboard for you and eventually enjoy riding the waves from then on.
First of all, many beginners learn how to surf using the longboards. Longboards are principally surfboards that are at least 9 feet long. This may tend to look silly especially if you are carrying it around on the beach but longboards are great for learning the sport of surfing.
For starters, longboards provides much more comfort when you lie down. It is also much faster to paddle out to the break and it will be easier for you to catch a wave. With time and practice, you will be able to stand on the longboard and catch waves in no time at all. From that point, you may want to start considering getting smaller boards.
If you are going to buy a used longboard, don’t go for one that are already discolored or are overly worn. You want to get a board that still has a little life in it and you shouldn’t be afraid to ding it up a bit. As a beginner, you shouldn’t buy a new surfboard as you will only need the longboard for practicing. Instead, borrow one from a friend or instead buy a used surfboard. Or, you can consider a long term rental. Your goal here is not to buy anything fancy but get a board that will get you in the water and start surfing.
If you are already experienced and you are moving on to shortboards, it is recommended that you get a fish, which is short and wide. Fish-shaped surfboards can provide you with a little more float and it will also make it easier for you to handle. IT may be a little harder for you to turn and duck dive with this kind of board but it will give you the feel on what it is like surfing with a shortboard.
If you are not comfortable using the boards, you need to remember that you shouldn’t worry too much about it. You will get used to it and with some practice you will be able to eventually surf really good. Always remember that if you are a beginner, go for longboards and as you get used to it or eventually get to master surfing in longboards, work your way up to shorter boards.
