So You Want To Be A Hockey Player
Hockey player is one of the most exciting sports today. Whether played on ice or on land, youngsters seem to be finding the sport interesting. In fact, even countries in the Asian region that does not have a winter season are enamored of the sport. They are played in artificial skating rinks and teams are just sent to other countries to complete in leagues.
Hockey sounds interesting but not all can be a player especially when you are talking about ice hockey. Being a contact sports, ice hockey necessitate excellent skills in skating and a clear vision. A player after all needs to skirt around an opponent and at the same time keep an eye on the puck. Below are some of the things you need to do or to have if you want to be an ice hockey player.
1. Skill on the ice
As mentioned before, you need to be an exceptionally great skater before you can even make a team. This is because hockey is a very physical sports and you need to be able to outmaneuver yourself in the ice if you want to score a goal. Skating can be really tricky and if you do not have the training for it, you will only end up face down on the ice for most of the games. Remember, that skating during hockey games is pretty fast, so you need speed too, which can only be learned through constant practice and confidence on the ice.
2. Money
Ice hockey is not a cheap sports. In fact, you need lots of money to pay for skating rink fees, coaches and even the equipment. They do not come cheap. The stick and puck alone can cost a lot, not to mention the padding and the helmet. If you do not have money to spare, better look for other sports that do not require much cost, like perhaps basketball or football.
3. Physical
Like any sports, it requires its players to have a great strong body, endurance and of course, eye-hand-body coordination. Remember that ice hockey is pretty much like basketball and soccer except that you are not only using your body parts but a stick. Thus, you need to be aware of your body and at the same time aware of what you are holding. This is harder in a sense because you need to train your brain and body to work together.
