Avoiding Injuries While Playing Hockey
Team sports such as hockey is a very physical contact game. Since it involves many people carrying hockey sticks with one goal to hit a hard disk called “puck”, accident and injuries have higher possibilities.
If you are interested to play hockey, one of the things that you should avoid is to have an injury. This is because it will put your overall health in danger once you become careless in when playing the game. When you have injury, it lessens your chance to play to more important hockey games that are lined up for your team.
To ensure that you won’t get injured when playing hockey, whether in the actual games or practice games, make sure that you:
- wear the proper hockey attire. Wearing the proper hockey attire is your primary protection against any injury. Before playing hockey, make sure that you wear a helmet to protect your head; skates for your feet; shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee and shin pads; hockey pants or breezers; gloves to ensure proper mobility and to protect your hands and wrist; athletic supporter and cup; neck protector to guard against hockey sticks and skate blades that are not in place; mouth guard to protect the teeth, lips, cheeks, and tongue and avoid possible fractures in the jaw.
- check your equipment. This is to ensure that there are faulty pieces of equipment that may cause accident. Major consideration would be the goalie gear including leg pads; arm pads and chest protectors; blocker gloves; and catcher gloves because these are very crucial not only for a winning game but for a safe game in general.
- be mindful about your movements. While playing hockey, don’t be too careless on your movements especially if you are just a beginner. Watching out for your movements will help you develop balance and discipline that you will need later on once you decide to make the winter sport a regular activity for yourself.
- check the overall condition of the location. If you have time to do an ocular about the place where you will play hockey, then do so. This will give you an overall picture of the place and will help you avoid areas that are not safe.
- always ask somebody to look out for you while playing hockey. Cases of emergency should always be taken consideration while playing hockey. To ensure that you’re life will not be at stake, ask somebody to look out for you so he or she can help you once an accident happens.
