Kiiking
Kiiking was invented in 1996 by Ado Kosk in Estonia. Kiik means swing in the Estonian language. The inventor in developing kiiking made the following observations and modifications: =
1. First, the inventor observed that it isn’t possible to swing around the spindle (portion) of a swing, especially with steel chain arms.
2. Secondly, he subsequently replaced the stiffer steel chain arms with less rigid steel carbon material in order to make swinging around the spindle possible.
3. The inventor further noticed the longer the arms of the swing; the more difficult it is to manage to swing around the spindle. He, in turn, developed arms adjustable as to length.
The result of all the testing and modifications is a large swing used in the sport of kiiking. The swing is gigantic in nature and if you watch the on-line videos, you’ll find the athlete’s level of skill most impressive.
The kiiking participant swings and at certain points appears momentarily suspended upside down before effecting coming around the spindle. The kiiking sportsman or woman is relegated to a standing position in order to affect coming around the top of the spindle.
The swing is certainly not meant for children: its proportions are so great. The participant gets the swing going, in a standing position, bending the knees somewhat during the outset, in order to establish momentum. The swing arms are lengthened each time a swing around the spindle portion is achieved. The objective is: the person who is able to go around the spindle portion at the longest arm length wins the game. This sport is highly extreme in nature, and the closest description you may derive from it is: it is very much like the swinging employed when jumping from up high, affected by the old-style trapeze artists.
However, rather than starting the swing up high, you begin your swing close to the ground and once momentum is achieved, you travel at heights well above ground level in order to make it around the spindle portion of the swing. It causes an adrenaline rush just to watch the activity, let alone perform it.
It is advised you view the videos on kiiking first before you consider giving this extreme-style sport a try. It appears there is very little in the way of instruction offered; and it is supposed natural skill and agility are prerequisites.
