Choosing The Fishing Lures For Bass Fishing
Bass fishing is a complicated sport. There are many things to learn about the fish that you want to catch, the conditions in which it is best to catch them, and the equipment that can be used to make the entire process easy for you.
Although bass fishing is focused on only a few species of bass, there are actually several different lures that should be used in order to catch the species that you are targeting. As with the rest of recreational fishing, there are varieties of lures that are used under specific conditions. Some of the most common ones are discussed below.
Crank baits
This type of bait is best used in lakes that have light vegetation and rocky bottom as it can be lowered and zoomed through easily to draw bass from their hiding places. The best crank baits are those that have natural colors although it is also not a bad idea to get ones that have noticeable hues. Crank baits that have gleaming and shimmering eye designs are also smart choices as these attract bass easier.
Spinner baits
Like crank baits, spinner baits are good for almost all types of water. These make for good baits that can cover a wide area of water, regardless of the depth.
There are several factors that can define the difference between spinner baits that allow you to catch the fish that you are targeting and those that can give you nothing – the water conditions among other factors like composition, color, blade and weight to name a few.
If you are fishing on murky water, the most effective type of spinner bait is the Colorado blade spinner which is usually available in colors blue and orange. In clear water, on the other hand, the willow leaf spinner bait is the best to use. Choose one that has a neutral color.
Top waters
If you are fishing in shallow water and water that has light surface vegetation, top waters are the best lures for you. There are at least five major types of top waters, namely the cigar, stick, slush, popper and buzz bait. Buzz baits is widely considered the most efficient lure and the easiest lure to use. Color is not of prime importance in selecting top water baits. The major consideration with this type of bait is the size. Be sure to ask your local lure dealer about the different sizes of top water baits that are good for specific species of bass.
There are several other different kinds of bass fishing lures such as jigs for deep and shallow waters, plastic lures that are noted as the safest and easiest baits to use, and tail spinners which are best for cold water conditions.
