There are a variety of different bass fishing lures that a bass angler can use to get him that prized game fish. Each one of these bass fishing lure actually has their own advantages and limitations, which is why learning how to find the best one for the job requires more skill and patience than you know.

Actually, half of the fun of bass fishing involves preparing for it. This is where you try and figure out which types of lures you intend to use for the job, and what kind of fishing technique you are going to use when you do decide to go and fish. Unfortunately, if you do not know much about the different bass fishing lures, then you might have a hard time figuring out which ones you need to take with you and use on your bass fishing trip. Top water Plugs

One of the more exciting types of bass fishing lures is the top water plugs. This is considered to be a fun and exciting type of lure because it can get a bass to create a vicious eruption on the surface of the water when they try to attack your top water fishing lure. Since the lure is set just on the surface of the water, it is a definite that you will see bass fishes perform such an exciting move. Usually, top water plugs work best when used in the early morning and in the late afternoon, when the water temperature is just above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are actually a variety of different top water plugs to choose from, such as chuggers, buzz baits, crawlers, prop baits and stick baits.

Subsurface Plugs

Subsurface plugs can be used to fish for bass on shallow, deep, and any depth that is in between, making this type of lure one that you can actually use almost the year round. When using this type of lure, you need to get the lure to bounce off the bottom, or on any type of cover, when you are in the process of retrieving the lure. You might have apprehensions about this type of technique, especially since doing this could cause the lure to get stuck on certain obstructions. As long as you use the lure on places that do not have too much dense bushy cover, then you should be fine.

There are actually three kinds of subsurface plugs that most bass anglers use when fishing, and they are the crank baits, jerk baits, and the minnow baits.

Soft Plastics

Soft plastic bass fishing lures are probably one of the more well-liked types of bass fishing lures that most bass anglers, whether they be professionals or merely amateurs, are adept at using. This is probably due to the fact that this particular type of lure has a “life-like” characteristic to it, making it more difficult for bass fishes to not let go of the lure. The lure has a “life-like” movement in the water, making it more appealing to the bass. This particular type of lure also has the ability to absorb scent, making it even more versatile in the sense that you can make it more attractive to the fish.

Swimbaits

Swimbaits are probably some of the more realistic looking lures that most bass anglers can use. These lures actually look like real forage fish that most big bass eat as part of their diet. Aside from the fact that these swimbaits look the part, they are able to mimic the movement of the forage fish. This is probably one of the reasons why this particular lure is used to catch bigger-sized bass. The only downside to this type of lure is that these are a bit on the pricy side.

Flies

Flies are another top water type of lure that can get the bass fish to come out of the water and attack the lure. This particular type of lure is actually being used widely by most bass anglers for catching smallmouth bass.

Jigs

The jig is actually a bass fishing lure that is considered to be very versatile in its use since you can practically use it for any type of situation. You can use this lure for shallow bass fishing, for deep bass fishing, for bass fishing in almost any season and in any water temperature. This lure has a very high catch ratio in relation to the number of bites, making this a real important piece of equipment that most bass fishermen should definitely have.
